Medicare Industry Advocacy
Senior Market Sales® (SMS) leadership is active in Washington, working with regulators and legislators to ensure they understand our business and make your voices heard. To that end, SMS works closely with leading professional organizations who are advocating on behalf of insurance agents and your clients.
Key Issues Include:

Fair agent compensation
Independent agents and brokers play a vital role in guiding Medicare beneficiaries through complex health care decisions, ensuring they receive the coverage they need. If commissions are eliminated or even reduced, it ultimately puts beneficiaries at risk of losing access to the expertise and support they receive from their trusted agent.

Medicare Supplement pricing
The loss ratios and subsequent pricing increases on Medicare Supplement plans are very concerning. As more and more states adopt the birthday rule, it only increases pressure on pricing while putting agents’ commissions at risk. To combat this issue, we’ve assembled a coalition of industry voices.

Decreased plan availability
Carriers are increasingly withdrawing from markets and reducing plan options, especially in rural and underserved areas. We support industry efforts to maintain marketing stability and ensure that Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans remain viable options for all.
